Make Your Own Shower Curtain

If you're looking for a way to add some personality to your bathroom, making your own shower curtain is a great option. It's a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours, and it's a great way to use up leftover fabric or old clothes.

There are many different ways to make a shower curtain, so you can choose the method that best suits your skills and the look you're going for. If you're new to sewing, you can try a simple no-sew method using fabric glue or fusible bonding tape. If you're more experienced, you can sew your curtain from scratch using a sewing machine.

Materials:

  • Fabric (1-1.5 yards, depending on the size of your shower)
  • Grommets or shower curtain rings
  • Fabric glue or fusible bonding tape (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Sewing machine (optional)
  • Thread (optional)
  • Instructions:

    1. Determine the size of your shower curtain. Measure the width and height of your shower opening. Add 6 inches to the width and 12 inches to the height to allow for overlap and shrinkage.

    2. Cut your fabric. Cut two pieces of fabric to the desired size. If you're using a patterned fabric, make sure the pattern is centered on one of the pieces.

    3. Hem the edges of the fabric. Fold the edges of the fabric over by 1 inch and press with an iron. Fold the edges over again by 1 inch and press again. Stitch the hem in place using a sewing machine or fabric glue.

    4. Install grommets or shower curtain rings. Space the grommets or shower curtain rings evenly along the top edge of the curtain. If you're using grommets, insert them into the fabric and hammer them into place. If you're using shower curtain rings, simply thread them through the fabric.

    5. Hang your shower curtain. Hang the shower curtain on your shower curtain rod. Adjust the height of the curtain so that it hangs evenly and covers the opening of the shower.

    Tips:

  • Use a waterproof fabric for your shower curtain, such as vinyl, polyester, or canvas.
  • If you're using a thin fabric, you may want to line it with a second layer of fabric to make it more durable.
  • Get creative with your shower curtain design. You can use fabric, paint, or even fabric markers to create a unique and personalized look.
