How To Sew Curtain Panels

Curtain panels are a great way to add style and privacy to your home. They can be made from a variety of fabrics, and can be customized to fit any window size. Sewing curtain panels is a relatively simple project, and can be completed in a few hours.

Materials:

Fabric (amount will vary depending on the size of your windows)
Thread
Sewing machine
Scissors
Measuring tape or ruler
Iron and ironing board
Curtain rod
Curtain rings or hooks

Instructions:

1. Measure the width and length of your window. Add 4 inches to the width for hems, and 6 inches to the length for a hem and a header.

2. Cut two pieces of fabric to the desired size. If you are using a patterned fabric, make sure that the pattern is facing the right way on both pieces.

3. Hem the sides of the fabric by folding over the raw edge twice and sewing a straight stitch close to the edge. Fold the bottom of the fabric over twice and sew a hem. Press the hems with an iron.

4. Create a header by folding over the top of the fabric by 3 inches and sewing a straight stitch across the top. Fold the header over again by 2 inches and sew another straight stitch across the top.

5. Insert the curtain rod into the header. If you are using curtain rings, thread them onto the rod before inserting it into the header. If you are using curtain hooks, hook them onto the curtain rod and then hang the curtain panels on the hooks.
