How To Make Curtain Tie Backs

Curtain tie backs are a great way to add a touch of style to your home décor. They can be made from a variety of materials, including fabric, rope, or even old belts. In this article, we'll show you how to make curtain tie backs from fabric.

Materials:

  1. Fabric (1/2 yard per tie back)
  2. Fusible interfacing (optional)
  3. Scissors
  4. Iron
  5. Ironing board
  6. Sewing machine (optional)
  7. Thread (optional)
  8. Needle (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cut two pieces of fabric that are 20 inches long by 4 inches wide.
  2. If desired, apply fusible interfacing to the wrong side of one of the pieces of fabric. This will help to give the tie back some stability.
  3. Fold the two pieces of fabric in half lengthwise, with the right sides together. Sew the long edges together, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Be sure to leave a 2-inch opening in the center of the seam for turning.
  4. Turn the tie back right side out and press it flat. Topstitch around the edges, close to the seam line.
  5. Fold the tie back in half again, with the right sides together. Sew the short ends together, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and end of the seam.
  6. Turn the tie back right side out and press it flat. Topstitch around the edges, close to the seam line.
  7. Your curtain tie backs are now complete.

Tips:

  • For a more decorative touch, you can add embellishments to your curtain tie backs. Some ideas include:
    • Adding a tassel to each end
    • Stitching on a decorative trim
    • Embroidering a design on the fabric
  • If you don't have a sewing machine, you can hand-sew the tie backs. Just use a small whip stitch or blanket stitch.
  • Curtain tie backs can be used to tie back any type of curtain, including sheer curtains, blackout curtains, and thermal curtains.
  • Curtain tie backs are a great way to add a personal touch to your home décor. Experiment with different fabrics and embellishments to create a unique look that complements your style.
