How To Hang Curtains Properly

Hanging curtains is a great way to add style and privacy to your home. But if you've never hung curtains before, the process can seem daunting. Don't worry, though—it's actually quite simple. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you hang curtains like a pro.

1. Choose the right curtains. The first step is to choose the right curtains for your home. Consider the style of your home, the size of your windows, and the amount of light you want to let in. If you're not sure what kind of curtains to choose, you can always consult with a professional.

2. Measure your windows. Once you've chosen your curtains, you need to measure your windows to determine how much fabric you'll need. To measure the width of your window, measure from the inside edge of the left frame to the inside edge of the right frame. To measure the height, measure from the top of the window frame to the bottom of where you want the curtains to hang.

3. Purchase the necessary supplies. In addition to your curtains, you'll need to purchase the following supplies:

  • Curtain rod
  • Curtain brackets
  • Screws
  • Measuring tape
  • Level
  • Drill (optional)

4. Install the curtain rod. The first step is to install the curtain rod. The type of curtain rod you'll need will depend on the weight of your curtains. For lightweight curtains, you can use a simple rod that screws into the wall. For heavier curtains, you'll need to use a rod that is supported by brackets.

To install the curtain rod, first measure the distance between the two brackets. Then, mark the location of the brackets on the wall. Drill pilot holes for the screws, and then screw the brackets into the wall. Finally, insert the curtain rod into the brackets.

5. Hang the curtains. Once the curtain rod is installed, you can hang the curtains. To do this, simply slip the curtains onto the rod. If your curtains have a lining, make sure that the lining is facing the inside of the room.

6. Adjust the curtains. Once the curtains are hung, you can adjust them to the desired length. To shorten the curtains, simply fold the excess fabric up and hem it. To lengthen the curtains, you can add a valence or a curtain extender.

7. Style the curtains. Once the curtains are hung and adjusted, you can style them to your liking. You can add tiebacks, valances, or other accessories to create a unique look.
