How To Hang Blackout Curtains

Blackout curtains are a great way to block out light and create a dark, private space. They are perfect for bedrooms, media rooms, and any other room where you want to control the light. Hanging blackout curtains is a relatively easy task that can be completed in a few hours.

Materials You Will Need:

Blackout curtains
Curtain rod
Curtain rod brackets
Screws
Drill
Level
Measuring tape
Pencil

Instructions:

1. Measure the width of the window. Add 6 to 12 inches to the width to allow for overlap on both sides of the window. This will be the length of the curtain rod.

2. Mark the location of the curtain rod brackets on the wall. The brackets should be placed at least 3 inches above the top of the window. Use a level to make sure that the brackets are level.

3. Drill pilot holes for the screws. The pilot holes should be slightly smaller than the screws.

4. Screw the curtain rod brackets into the wall. Make sure that the brackets are securely tightened.

5. Place the curtain rod on the brackets. The rod should be level.

6. Hang the blackout curtains on the curtain rod. The curtains should be hung so that they overlap by at least 6 inches on both sides of the window.

7. Adjust the curtains so that they are evenly hung and there are no gaps between the curtains and the window.

Tips:

If you are hanging blackout curtains in a bedroom, choose curtains that are made of a heavy fabric that will block out all light.
To create a more complete blackout effect, you can also add blackout lining to the curtains.
If you are having trouble blocking out all of the light, you can use a combination of blackout curtains and blinds or shades.
