Step 1: Measure Window Width

Start by measuring the width of your window frame from one end to the other. Do not include any trim or molding in your measurement.

Step 2: Add 6-8 Inches to Each Side

To ensure that your curtains provide ample coverage and privacy, add 6-8 inches to each side of the window's measured width. This will allow the curtains to overlap the window frame slightly and extend beyond the edges when fully open.

Step 3: Multiply by Number of Curtain Panels

If you plan to use multiple curtain panels for a window, multiply the total width calculated in Step 2 by the number of panels. For example, for a window that is 40 inches wide and you want to use two curtain panels, the total curtain width would be: (40 inches + 6 inches) x 2 = 92 inches.

Step 4: Add Space Between Panels (Optional)

If you prefer a fuller, more layered look, you can add some extra space between the curtain panels. Add 4-6 inches per space you want. For example, if you want to create one space between two panels, you would add 8 inches to the total curtain width calculated in Step 3.
