How to Clean a Moldy Shower Curtain

Mold and mildew can thrive in the damp environment of your shower, and your shower curtain is a prime target. If you've noticed black or pink spots on your curtain, it's time to clean it. But don't worry, it's not as difficult as you might think.

What You'll Need

* White vinegar * Baking soda * Washing machine * Bleach (optional) * Clean cloths or sponges

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

* Before you start, gather the materials you'll need. You'll need white vinegar, baking soda, a washing machine, bleach (optional), and clean cloths or sponges.

Step 2: Remove the Shower Curtain

* Before you start cleaning, remove the shower curtain from the rod and place it in the bathtub or shower stall. This will make it easier to clean and rinse.

Step 3: Fill the Tub with Hot Water

* Fill the bathtub or shower stall with hot water. The hot water will help to loosen the mold and mildew.

Step 4: Add Vinegar to the Water

* Add 1 cup of white vinegar to the hot water. The vinegar will help to kill the mold and mildew.

Step 5: Soak the Shower Curtain

* Soak the shower curtain in the vinegar solution for at least 30 minutes. The longer the curtain soaks, the better the results will be.

Step 6: Scrub the Shower Curtain

* After the curtain has soaked, scrub it with a clean cloth or sponge. Be sure to scrub all of the surfaces of the curtain, including the seams and the grommets.

Step 7: Rinse the Shower Curtain

* Once you've scrubbed the curtain, rinse it thoroughly with cold water. Be sure to rinse all of the vinegar solution from the curtain.

Step 8: Add Baking Soda to the Washing Machine

* Add 1 cup of baking soda to your washing machine. The baking soda will help to remove any remaining mold or mildew.

Step 9: Wash the Shower Curtain

* Place the shower curtain in the washing machine and wash it on the regular cycle with hot water. You can add a little bleach to the wash cycle if you want to whiten the curtain.

Step 10: Dry the Shower Curtain

* Once the shower curtain has been washed, dry it on the low heat setting in your dryer. You can also hang the curtain to air dry.

Step 11: Rehang the Shower Curtain

* Once the shower curtain is dry, rehang it on the rod. Be sure to clean the rod before you rehang the curtain.
