How To Create Blackout Curtains

Materials You'll Need:

Fabric (blackout lining fabric or heavy-duty fabric)
Thread
Measuring tape or ruler
Scissors
Sewing machine
Iron and ironing board
Curtain rod or track

Instructions:

1. Measure the width and length of your window. Add 4 inches to the width and 6 inches to the length to allow for hems and overlap. 2. Cut two pieces of fabric to the desired size. 3. Place the two pieces of fabric right sides together and sew around the edges, leaving a 4-inch opening at the bottom. 4. Turn the curtain right side out and press the seams. 5. Fold the bottom hem up by 2 inches and press. Fold it up another 2 inches and press again. Topstitch the hem in place. 6. Fold the side hems over by 1 inch and press. Fold them over again by 1 inch and press again. Topstitch the hems in place. 7. Insert the curtain rod or track into the top of the curtain. 8. Hang the curtain on the rod or track.

Tips:

For blackout curtains, use a blackout lining fabric. This fabric is specially designed to block out light.
If you are using a heavy-duty fabric, you may need to use a heavier needle and thread.
Be sure to press the seams well to prevent fraying.
You can add decorative trim to the curtains to give them a more finished look.
